Color and Lighting Test

Plan on doing lots of paint an lighting, but wanted to test some first in the basement landing room.  Here is the before.

And now with a paint test (rough, not finished) and a single small track light fixture.

Idea here is to make the low (8') ceiling look taller, which it does, and works well with the lighting.  The fixture is temporary.  Also found that the light fixtures in this house don't have electrical boxes behind them, just surface fixtures.  That will require some additional work, but not a big deal.  This room will definitely a require a dimmer, and the lights will be around the perimeter of the room.

This does tell me that this is only really a color pallet for the basement, but in there it works quite well.  I do also think that some ceiling trim would potentially dress it up a lot.

Garage Door Openers

Old garage doors/openers had issues.  No remote for one, iffy remote connection for the others, and very noisy and bumpy.  Doors themselves were ok, but put new rollers in, and found a good deal on modern 3/4 hp garage door openers.  Got one installed.

More Room For Activities

Knew there was some empty space under the stairs, good use of space for long-term storage. Could put a door on it but probably doesn't need it since that is all in a closet already.  I'll reinforce the upper beam and remove the 2 studs.

Windows Starting

Removing the drywall and trim around the windows so that I can measure for replacements.  Also cut the drywall around the water plumbing that was exposed in the basement.  Discovered it was just really, really lazy plumbing.  They moved the exterior faucet and didn't bother to replumb correctly.
