Color and Lighting Test

Plan on doing lots of paint an lighting, but wanted to test some first in the basement landing room.  Here is the before. And now with a paint test (rough, not finished) and a single small track light fixture. Idea here is to make the low (8') ceiling look taller, which it does, and works well with the lighting.  The fixture is temporary.  Also found that the light fixtures in this house don't have electrical boxes behind them, just surface fixtures.  That will require some additional work, but not a big deal.  This room will definitely a require a dimmer, and the lights will be around the perimeter of the room. This does tell me that this is only really a color pallet for the basement, but in there it works quite well.  I do also think that some ceiling trim would potentially dress it up a lot.

Geeked Up

Finally got internet working, and started installing Wyze cameras and my thermostat. Will cleanup the paint later.

More Demo

Out for a short visit to install monitoring systems.  Doing some discovery demo.  Pulled up the carpet in the kitchen to reveal 3/4 ply was used in the kitchen, but 1/2" chip board was using in the rest of the living area. Given how much the old chip board flexes, this means I'll need to replace all of it with proper 3/4" subfloor material.  I could get away without doing that, but for the long-term it's much better to have good flooring, particularly since I plan to use a luxury vinyl flooring. Also removed some of the side wall in the kitchen.  Confirmed that the drywall area over the cabinets is empty, and was just done for looks, so I can remove it when it's time to do the kitchen. Also got a proper toilet to install.  The current toilets in the house as super small.  This is a proper comfort height and elongated toilet.  Also dual flush. Finally, started pulling up more carpet on the stairs.  Turns out they rounded off the steps.  ...
