More Demo

Out for a short visit to install monitoring systems.  Doing some discovery demo.  Pulled up the carpet in the kitchen to reveal 3/4 ply was used in the kitchen, but 1/2" chip board was using in the rest of the living area.

Given how much the old chip board flexes, this means I'll need to replace all of it with proper 3/4" subfloor material.  I could get away without doing that, but for the long-term it's much better to have good flooring, particularly since I plan to use a luxury vinyl flooring.

Also removed some of the side wall in the kitchen.  Confirmed that the drywall area over the cabinets is empty, and was just done for looks, so I can remove it when it's time to do the kitchen.

Also got a proper toilet to install.  The current toilets in the house as super small.  This is a proper comfort height and elongated toilet.  Also dual flush.

Finally, started pulling up more carpet on the stairs.  Turns out they rounded off the steps.  I plan to add 1" of length to each step, but seeing that the current steps are rounded means I'll need to replace the treads entirely.  This is actually not a big deal, and will make the steps more secure in the long run.

Garage Door Openers

Old garage doors/openers had issues.  No remote for one, iffy remote connection for the others, and very noisy and bumpy.  Doors themselves were ok, but put new rollers in, and found a good deal on modern 3/4 hp garage door openers.  Got one installed.

More Room For Activities

Knew there was some empty space under the stairs, good use of space for long-term storage. Could put a door on it but probably doesn't need it since that is all in a closet already.  I'll reinforce the upper beam and remove the 2 studs.

Windows Starting

Removing the drywall and trim around the windows so that I can measure for replacements.  Also cut the drywall around the water plumbing that was exposed in the basement.  Discovered it was just really, really lazy plumbing.  They moved the exterior faucet and didn't bother to replumb correctly.
